As Americans, we share in a history of uprootedness. From westward expansion and manifest destiny to the mobility we seek in our careers or personal lives, movement is ever present. But as I peel back more and more layers about what home really means to me, I find that it always comes back to people and food. It is no coincidence that the memory and feeling centers in our brain directly connect to our sense of smell and taste (one of the most primitive parts of the brain, the Olfactory system). When I am working out a problem or approaching a new concept, it takes all five senses for me to work it out. Food is the perfect medium to incorporate the senses of taste, touch and smell (as well as visual and audible), therefore utilizing more in potential ways to approach or deal with questions.
